Post 312 awards 60 Year
Certificates
Post 312 of Belmont honored three
60-year members. From left are Hollis
Kemp, Harry Schrum, Hilles Kemp and
Commander Floyd Simpson. Simpson presented
the official American Legion 60-year pins
and Post Award Certificates to the three
World War II veterans. Hilles Kemp
currently serves as Post Finance Officer,
while Harry Schrum served the Post for
many years as Adjutant.

The three young men and their parents were
guests of the Post and each gave a short,
informative presentation of their
experience at Boys State.

Belpre Legion Post 495 turns
75
Belpre Legion Post 495 celebrated its 75th
anniversary on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, with
a program and dinner. The Post started up
on Nov. 11 1932 with 27 members and has
grown to 48 members, said Bill Harpold,
Post Sergeant-at-Arms, giving a brief
history of the post. Post 495 is the only
veterans organization in Belpre. Post 495
serves the community by acting as a
liaison between veterans and veteran's
services. The post has a Memorial Day
program each year. It is also active with
Boy Scout Troop 13, provides a Color Guard
when needed to go to local schools and
teach about veterans and Americanism,
American Legion baseball, Flag retirement
and helps out when needed. The main
speaker for the program was Terri
Santiago, mother of Pfc. Christopher
Santiago, who was injured in Iraq.
