Capturing Gold...and Silver, and Bronze

Ed 'Frenchie' DesLauriers, Second Vice Commander of American Legion Post 521 in Shadyside, recently competed in the National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This was his seventh year of competition, but his first since 1998 due to health issues, which ironically, was the last time the games were held in Pittsburgh. More than 670 competitors, all veterans in wheelchairs, competed in the games. Frenchie won a Bronze medal in Archery, a Silver medal in Bowling, a Gold medal in the 100-meter and a Gold medal in the 1500-meter races. In the 100-meter race, the closest competitor was 10 meters behind DesLauriers. Frenchie has won 100-meter race from 1993 to 1998 at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games and is proud to say, "I still own the 100 meter in track."
