Post 797, MCFSC Blood Drive for the Troops
Gahanna Post 797 and the Marine Corps Family Support Community (MCFSC) collected needed pints of blood during a drive for the troops on December 29. Ever since they found out last summer that the only way blood could be donated to the military was through the Armed Service Blood Program (ASBP) on DOD property. Post 797, the MCFSC and the 12th District Council has promised to have a drive every two months. "We will be trying to get every Veterans Service Organization in Franklin County involved," stated Pete Margaritis, Blood Drive Chairman for Post 797 and the 12th District. Post 797 and the MCFSC has been able to change 50-year-old DOD policy on allowing civilians to donate to the military blood supply but they are still required to run the drive on DOD property. The Post is working with a local Army Reserve center to run the drives. The military needs over 360 pints a day. The ASBP professionals from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base come to Columbus to draw and handle the blood. They have promised that each pint of blood that they collect will be in the bodies of our troops within one week from the time they draw it. "There is no project that the Legion can do that is more important than this, said Pete, "this is what I joined the Legion for."

Gahanna High Memorial marks anniversary
November 12, 2007, was the one-year anniversary of the Gahanna Lincoln High School Memorial. The American Legion Department of Ohio bought a stone in the memorial. 1st Vice Commander Bob Kimball was present for the unveiling of the stone. It is remarkable that High School students erected this memorial within one year. Gahanna Post 797 did a wonderful job presenting colors and firing a 21-gun salute.
