Post 19 Booster
Mary Cornelius, a member of Post 19 in Akron is pictured with her Cleveland Browns Blanket that she just completed and donated to Post 19 for a raffle item. Mary is a nurse veteran of World War II and though she is homebound she still stays involved in her community and post with her donations of handmade afghans, children's blankets and booties and blankets.


At the Kettle
Members of Akron Post 19 American Legion "Family" manned the Salvation Army Red Kettle at ACME #1on December 22nd as part of their annual community service. The Post, Auxiliary Unit and SAL Squadron members took their turns at standing with the kettle for donations. Pictured are three of the volunteers (from left) Post members Shirley Herbert and Gene Champe, and Auxiliary member Pat Champe.


On target
Frank Bender Post 473 in Copley sponsored the Ashland Eagles Junior Rifle Precision Team to shoot in the American Legion Junior Shooting Sports Program for 2007. The team competed in Region 7, comprised of Ohio, Kentucky and Illinois and placed second with a score of 2276 out of 2400. In the national team competition, the team placed 17th out of 63 teams entered. In the individual matches, there were 252 people competing and Abbey Stanec qualified as one of the finalists for the National Championships at the Olympic Training Center at Colorado Springs, Colorado. Abbey placed third out of 15 finalists competing with a score of 2354 out of 2400 and was only 6 points behind the national championship winner. Abbey is congratulated by Post Commander Dale Panovich on her tremendous accomplishment.
