Clark elected Grande Chef de Gare

During the closing moments of the 87th Grande Promenade of the Grande Voiture Du Ohio, La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux (40 et 8) on Saturday, June 28th, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Independence, Ohio, Raymond Clark was elected as the 2008 ~ 2009 Grande Chef de Gare.

Grande Chef de Gare Clark was born and raised in Ashland, Ohio were he attended Ashland High School. He joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and served as a A and E Mechanic and Flight Engineer in the 1st Air Sea Rescue Squadron and was discharged in 1953.

Several years later, in 1955, he joined Harry Higgins American Legion Post 88, where he has been active ever since.

He has served on several Committees and Offices, including serving as Post Trustee for the past 15 years, and, is a Life Member of Post 88. If you ever stop by the Post looking for him though, don't ask for Ray Clark, ask for "Cookie" because that is what he is known as, there at Post 88.

He was wrecked into La Societe and Ashland County Voiture 800 in 1960. He has held numerous offices including the office of Chef de Gare beginning in 1989 for 15 years. Currently he serves as their Chef de Train.

On the Grande level he has served as Cheminot and Sous Cheminot of the 5th District, Grande Box Car Directeur, Grande Commis Voyageur, Garde de La Porte (2 Years), Conducteur (2 Years) and Chef de Train.

Currently he serves on the National level as Sous National Membership Directeur and is a charter member of the National Past Chef de Gare Club besides being a Life Member of La Societe.

Besides his Life Memberships in The American Legion and 40 et 8, he is a Life Member of VFW Post 1067 and Amvets Post 26.

He has one daughter Kimberly Ann Edwards, a granddaughter Casey, grandson Kyle and son-in-law Thomas. Kimberly currently serves as a County Commissioner for Ashland County.

In times when not working with veteran organizations, he enjoys life, his family, friends and helping others. A real point of interest is, Grande Chef de Gare Clark will turn 80 years old on September 3rd, while in Orlando, Florida, attending Promenade Nationale. Who would have ever guessed this!
