Hight's Horizons
By Roger Hight, Department Adjutant

On February 8, 2010, the Boy Scouts of America
turned 100 years old. In Ohio, American Legion
Posts sponsor 140 troops with a membership of over
3,600 boys. The Boy Scouts share a special
relationship with The American Legion, more than
just a sponsorship. Many of our military, both past
and present, belonged to the "scouts." Our two
organizations share many of the same values and
beliefs. The American Legion has embraced the
scouting movement since our beginning in 1919 and
we are proud of that association.
Today the Boy Scouts continue their many
programs of service including writing letters to
both current military and veterans, plus sending
care packages to our troops. They continue to
develop in young people the values of the Scout
Oath and Scout Law. Scouting instills skills for
leadership, citizenship, self-confidence, ethics
and so much more. If all of us obeyed the Scout Law
and pledge, what a wonderful world it would be.
Congratulations, Boy Scouts, on 100 years of
success.
On May 1 a great seminar will be offered to the
members of the Department of Ohio. See the article
on Page 1 of this issue of the Ohio Legion News for
more details. The seminar will cover many items
that apply to today's American Legion. Because of
limited space, we ask that you notify us if you
desire to attend. Please call Internal Affairs
Director Mike Wiswell at (740) 362-7478 for
information on the seminar or to make a reservation
to attend the class.
Thought for the Day
"Love And kindness are never wasted. They
always make a difference. They bless the one who
receives them, and they bless you the giver." -
