Second Vice Commander's Column

The past six months have just flown by. Half of the year has already gone by and it seems like just yesterday that we were in Dayton for the convention. I've visited many Districts and hope to visit many more before the year is over. Please, if you want me to speak or visit your district please contact The Department and they will send me if I'm not scheduled to be someplace else.

I would like to thank all that came to the Mid-Winter Conference in Columbus in January. We did get a lot of work done and held many good meetings. We still have much work to do and many more activities to attend. It was a pleasure having the National Commander Clarence Hill and his wife at the conference.

Please don't forget Commander Lou's program this year is C.O.T.A., Children's Organ Transplant Association. Lou has worked hard on this program but there is still much to do. Please keep the donations coming in.

We held our first annual Wii Tournament and it was a huge success. I would like to thank Bucyrus Post 181 for hosting the tournament. My hat is off to you as you did a great job hosting and Neva and I look forward to the tournament next year. The tournament winner was a 9-year-old boy. He is Dennis Teynor's grandson. We had 37 people in the tournament with ages 6 years old to 70 years old and all had a great time.

I hope many of you are attending your own Mid-Winter Conferences in your own districts, as you can learn much about the American Legion and all of our programs if you just go and listen. We don't just need chair people at these conferences.

Try to pick up a new member from your post and take them along with you, as you never know when you could start another member down the road to becoming active in one program or another. Sometimes you just have to ask.

We still have many more activities coming up in the near future. By the time you receive this the Bowling Tournament will most likely be near the end or over with. I hope everyone found a weekend that they could attend. I'm sure all had a great time.

Don't forget that Easter will be here on April 4. I hope everyone gets to spend some time with their families and friends.

Bettsville Post 733 is looking forward to hosting the annual Euchre Tournament on April 17. The tournament will run from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. The cost is $10.00 per team; you must be 21 years old and a member in good standing. No refunds.

Once again Milford Post 450 will host the Pool Tournament to be held on April 17 and 18. The cost is $15.00 for singles and $25.00 for doubles. No refunds.

The Corn Hole Toss Tournament will be held on May 1, hosted by Bucyrus Post 181. Registration will open at 12:00 noon with the games starting at 1:00 p.m. The cost is $5.00 a person with no refunds. The tournament is open to all members of our American Legion family.

I'm hoping that all districts have many activities planned for the upcoming months.

Remember if we stay active and keep all of the legion family involved we will grow. This is one way to pull in more membership.

At the first of the year there was a meeting of all of the new District Second Vices; they were all asked to please try to attend all D.E.C. meetings and all department functions. Not all have been able to do so, but we do have one that has been to everything so far and I would like to take this time to thank him. He is Carrol Liston from the 6th District. Nice job Carrol and keep up the good work.

Bob Klostermeier, 2nd Vice Commander
