Dr. Russell Coffey, WWI Veteran

The last known Ohio World War I veteran passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2007. Dr. Russell Coffey, who resided in a nursing home in North Baltimore, Ohio, passed away peacefully at the age of 109.

At the time of his Death, Dr. Coffey was one of three known World War I veterans still alive in the United States, according to the Veterans Administration.

Department Commander Mike Morman, who served as a pallbearer and presented the flag to members of Dr. Coffey's family, represented the Ohio American Legion at Dr. Coffey's funeral on December 22.
